Secure Server Manager

The Secure Server Manager will allow you to install a secure certificate on your site. To setup a secure server you will have to purchase a secure certificate from Verisign or Thawte. This process needs to be done in 2 steps. One, Generate your Key and Certificate Request and two, install the certificate from Verisign or Thawte.

1. Before generating the request, view the directions below. Once you are ready to generate the certificate request for Verisign or Thawte, you will be able to generate a request from within your control panel.


You will be required to fill out some information before generating your secure certificate request. This information must be taken from the Internic. The private key which you will have to save until you receive the certificate from Thawte or Verisign will look something like the one below: (remember, you must save this on your computer for when you install the certificate which Thawte or Verisign will send):

The certificate request will look something like the one below: (to send this to Thawte or Verisign, please cut and paste it in an e-mail):

You will need to send this request to Thawte or Verisign to receive your certificate. When you receive the certificate from Thawte or Verisign, please complete step 2 below.


2. Before you install your certificate from Thawte or Verisign, please review the directions below. Once you have received the key from Verisign or Thawte, and reviewed the directions below, click on Install Certificate, from within your control panel, to install your certificate.

Remember to have the RSA Private Key that you generated in step one with you. You must place both the Private Key and the certificate that Verisign or Thawte sent you in the text box before you can install the certificate. The Certificate you get should look something like:

3. If your certificate expires, please contact your certificate issuer for more information on renewal. Once you have received a new certificate from your issuer, and reviewed the directions below, click on Update Certificate, from within your control panel, to install your new certificate.

4. If you would like to create a fake certificate on your site to see how it works click on Generate a Dummy Certificate, from within your control panel. You can still install a certificate from Verisign or Thawte over this later.

THE BEST ADVICE THAT I CAN GIVE YOU IS THIS: Be sure to read how to order the certificate from the Verisign or Thawte web site before placing your order. There are particular things you will have to have on hand to be able to do this. Also, be sure to save the information they send you to your hard drive. It wouldn't hurt to save it to a disk also, in case you lose it :).
