Anonymous FTP

is available in Package B and C

If you have the Anon FTP icon in your administrative suite, just click it and then click the button to install it and it will be done within 10 minutes. Then it will create the necessary directories indicated below.

What is Anonymous FTP?

Anonymous FTP is the ability to upload and/or download files from a server without having a login username and password. Obviously, for security reasons, we only allow anonymous FTP to specific directories.

After anonymous FTP is setup, it will create a directory called domainname-anonftp in your home directory (you can view this when you log into your file manager or ftp into your domain). This directory will by default contain the following directories:

/bin
/dev
/etc
/lib
/pub

The only directory that is used is the "pub" directory. This is where you, the user, should put files that you want to have visitors anonymously download. Visitors can access this directory via a browser by going to:

ftp://yourdomain.com/pub

---------------------------

Note, we do not allow clients the ability to both upload and download to the same directory.  We do this for security reasons.  You are responsible for moving files from the incoming directory to the pub directory for uploaded files to be later downloaded.

--------------------------------

The incoming directory would be:

ftp://yourdomain.com/incoming

This directory is writeable from the web but NOT readable. No one coming in from the web (or from an FTP program logging in as "anonymous") can see what files are stored here.

This can be useful for clients who want to allow users to upload files but don't want to give them full FTP access. The clients would upload to ftp://yourdomain.com/incoming and you would move the files into /home/user/yourdomain-www/folder
